Why cooked eggs suit cats
Cats are meat-eaters, and eggs are pure, high-quality animal protein โ so a little cooked, plain egg is a treat most cats enjoy and digest well. Scrambled (no butter/oil), boiled, or poached all work.
Always cook them โ never raw
- Salmonella โ raw eggs can carry bacteria that make cats (and you) ill.
- Avidin in raw egg whites can block biotin absorption if fed regularly. Cooking removes both risks.
How much?
Eggs are rich and calorie-dense for a small animal. Offer just a teaspoon or so of cooked egg occasionally โ treats should stay within about 10% of daily calories (see our cat food calculator). Eggs are a treat, not a meal โ your cat still needs complete cat food.
Frequently asked questions
Can cats eat egg yolk or just the white?
Both are fine when cooked. The yolk is higher in fat and calories, so keep portions small.
Can kittens eat egg?
A tiny amount of cooked egg is okay, but kittens should mainly eat complete kitten food for balanced growth.
