Horses mature fast in their early years, then age gradually:
- Year 1 ≈ 6.5 human years
- Year 2 ≈ 13 · Year 3 ≈ 18
- Each year after adds about 2.5 human years

Caring for your horse's life stage
Young horses need careful growth, training, and nutrition. Senior horses (15+ years) benefit from regular dental care (their teeth wear down), senior feed that's easy to chew, joint support, and closer monitoring for conditions like Cushing's disease and arthritis.
Frequently asked questions

How can I tell a horse's age?
Vets and experienced horse people estimate age from the teeth, but registration papers are the most reliable record.
