Why cooked eggs are good for dogs
Eggs are one of nature's most complete proteins. A cooked egg gives your dog high-quality, easily digestible protein plus vitamins A and B12, riboflavin, selenium, and fatty acids that support skin and coat. Scrambled (no butter/oil), boiled, or poached all work — just keep it plain.
Why to skip raw eggs
- Salmonella risk — raw eggs can carry bacteria that make dogs (and you) sick.
- Avidin in raw egg whites can interfere with biotin absorption if fed regularly. Cooking solves both.
How much?
Eggs are nutritious but calorie- and fat-dense. A portion of an egg up to one whole egg, occasionally, suits most dogs — smaller dogs need less. Keep it within about 10% of daily calories (see our dog food calculator).
